Phoenix Park Duathlon: May Race Report

In Uncategorized by David Power1 Comment

The summerΒ 2016 duathlon season kicked off under sunny skies in the Phoenix Park. The first of 3 races organised by Belpark Triathlon Club featured a large field of over 230 competitors, setting off in 3 waves. The popularity of the race was evident by the long queues for registration. The finish area looked great with a tented village that did well not to blow away.

O’Reilly & Adams claim the wins

Winners for 2016 were Cian O’Reilly of Virginia Cycling Club in 37:34 & Bronagh Adams in 44:24. Second was Will Byrne in 39:21 and Isobel Oakes in 44:35. Third was Alan Kenny (3D) in 39:48 and Paula Prendergast in 45:52. Junior winner was Jonathan Nangle in 44:28 and veteran winners were Brendan Buck (Wicklow) in 40:26 and Miriam Staunton (Pulse) in 51:12.

Great to experience the race from the athlete’s perspective. It was a really well run race, with a great atmosphere and buzz. The large number of staff present were very friendly and encouraging. Congrats to Padraig and the team for putting on a great event.
