My name is Sinéad. So a few months ago I got the bike through bike to work scheme with the idea of taking the pressure off my body from running. I’m a runner it’s what I do, walk , crawl or run.
So one of my club mates mentioned the duathlon and I persuaded Ann to do the race to.
So we set about our training with cyclists a bit more experienced. Bear in mind I hadn’t been on a bike in about 27 years.
With a few training cycles, I was all ready for my first duathlon.
I was sick with nerves on the day, imagining I’d be last and emailed organisers numerous times but they always reassured me.
I was more nervous about the run.
Anyway I loved every minute of it, really well organised and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
You know what I did come last but I’ve overcome my fear. Was on a high after it.
The cheer from my club DBRC was worth every minute of the duathlon.
So if you’re worried about being last or not being up to scratch ignore those inner doubts.
I’ve taken on new challenge totally out of my comfort zone. Duathlon now, triathlon maybe? Who knows but I’d 100% recommend the Phoenix Park Duathlons.
