For the 2017 Open Water season all club sessions will be held at Seapoint. (Best place for parking is Belgrave Sq.)
The club open water sessions will generally be split into two groups.
Group 1: This group will have a designated leader and will work on building confidence close to shore. The session will be about 30-45mins long and work on key open water skills in a safe environment. This group is suitable for all abilities.
Group 2: More confident swimmers will head out to the buoys and aim to get 1200-2500m of swimming in. This session will be self-led with the more experienced club members taking a leaders role. Session should include some race simulation work concentrating on busy starts and mark rounding.
Handicap Races: These are suitable for anyone confident in swimming 400m – 800m in the open water. Start times are staggered based on ability and the first person home takes the win! Remember that transition practice is all part of the fun so you only finish when your wetsuit is off!!
Wetsuits are mandatory and we recommend you bring warm clothes for afterwards.
All sessions coincide with tides so are not at regular days / times. The dates and times for Club Open Water sessions are posted on the forum during open water season.
Non-Club Open Water Swimming
In addition to the regular club swims at Seapoint, club members regularly organize non-official open water swims at Seapoint and the 40 Ft in Sandycove via the forum. Please keep an eye out if you are interested or post up if you are heading out.
If you are swimming outside the safety of a club session, please familiarize yourself with safety guidelines listed below before doing so and never swim alone.
If you have any questions regarding the Open Water, please contact Assistant Training Officer Ian Grehan
