Race Report

The second Phoenix Park Duathlon of 2019, sponsored by Mason Hayes & Curran and hosted by Belpark Triathlon Club, took place on Wednesday evening in Dublin's iconic park. Over 85 juniors and 170 adults competed on a dry and fresh evening. Many first time duathletes took part - young and old, so good luck racing this summer.

Two new winners emerged - Sarah Hawkshaw (Portmarnock Tri Club) and Michael McGloin finished ahead of 2nd Karla Doran (Mason Hayes and Curran) & Will Byrne, 3rd Claire Ludlow (Tri an Mhí) and Jonathan Nangle (Tri an Mhí). Michael was delighted - he's been taking part in these races since 2003, so it just shows perseverance pays off. The fastest run was from the speedy relay team of Mason Hayes & Curran - Louis McCarthy set the pace and Declan Black was chased on the bike by the leaders.

The junior races were a delight to watch. Three distances for various ages, with parents and family cheering them on. 6-9 year olds completed a short course, followed by 10-12 year olds who did a 2.5km bike lap and the new wave for 13-15 year olds gave them a chance to race around the closed roads on the 4km technical bike course. Provisional results are available and 1,000s of photos will be shared over the coming days. Please share your story or photo using hashtag #PhoenixParkDuathlon<. Belpark looks forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 10th July.
